Reading of Kate’s Light, a story about Kate Walker at Robbin’s Reef Lighthouse by Elizabeth Spires (Author), Emily Arnold McCully (Illustrator).

Living in the isolated Robbins Reef Lighthouse, overlooking turn-of-the-century New York Harbor, Kate Walker spent her life minding the light, keeping passing ships from running aground on the dangerous shoals.

Katherine Walker tended the Robbins Reef Light in New York Harbor for more than 30 years after the death of her husband, Captain John Walker. During her tenure she rescued 50 or more sailors from shipwrecks.
